WALTZ TURN WITHIN A SQUARE FOUR MEASURES
Stand near 12 at the right side of a square (whose sides are numbered 3—6—9 and 12) and which has its four corners clipped off (as 1—4—7 and 10).
First Measure
Count 1—Step with right foot and face out and to the right. Count 2—Step with left foot to far end of that side. Count 3—Close right foot to left foot.
Second Measure
Count 4—<Step back with left foot to near end of next side of square
facing in. Count 5—Step to far end of same side with right foot. Count 6—Close left foot to right foot
Third Measure
Count 7—Step diagonally forward to near end of next side with right
foot facing out. Count 8—Step with left foot to far end of this same side. Count 9—Close right foot to left foot.
Fourth Measure
Count 10—Step diagonally back with left foot to near end of the side
from which you started. Count 11—Step with right foot to far end of this side, putting foot
down in original position. Count 12—Close left foot to right foot and you are back where you
started from.
Repeat over and over until order of steps and complete revolution become instinctive.
By starting at the other end of this side with the left foot the entire figure can be reversed.
